Home collection vs vet collection

Updated 27 June 2026

When you arrange a cremation, your pet needs to get from where they are to the cremation provider. The two common paths are home collection and vet collection.

Home collection

A provider collects your pet from your home. This is the gentle option if your pet passed away at home, and it means you can say goodbye in familiar surroundings. Home collection is often available 7 days a week, sometimes after hours. It usually has a collection fee that varies with distance.

Vet collection

If your pet passed away or was euthanised at a vet clinic, the clinic holds your pet and the cremation provider collects them from there. This is convenient and often arranged for you, though the clinic may add a handling component to the cost.

How to choose

  • Where is your pet now, at home or at a vet clinic?
  • Do you want to be present when your pet is collected?
  • Is after-hours or weekend collection important to you?
  • Compare collection fees. Distance and timing can both affect the price.

Frequently asked questions

Is home collection available after hours?

Many providers offer 7-day and after-hours home collection, though an after-hours or weekend fee may apply. Availability varies by provider and area. Check the provider's listing or contact them directly.

Does collection cost extra?

Home collection usually involves a fee that depends on distance and timing. Vet collection may be bundled into the clinic's arrangements. Ask for the collection fee as part of your quote.
