How this works
The whole model, in plain language. Nothing here is hidden behind a black box.
- It is a decision helper, not a ranking engine
- It does not choose a provider for you, score anything, or hide options. It takes what you have said matters and explains which aftercare routes are most likely to fit, and why. Every option stays visible, including the ones that fit poorly, so you can see what you would be ruling out.
- The ashes question does most of the work
- Whether you want the ashes returned is the single biggest fork. It is what separates private cremation from communal cremation, and it is generally not reversible once an arrangement is made, which is why it is the first question.
- Availability comes from the real directory, not from assumption
- When we say how many providers confirm aquamation or burial in your country, that is a count of providers whose own published information confirms it. A zero means we have not recorded one, which is a different statement from none existing, and the page says so.
- Deterministic, so the answer does not wander
- The same answers always produce exactly the same result, in the same order. There is no randomness and no hidden score. Change an answer back and you get the earlier result again, unchanged.
- No prices, because a price here would be invented
- Cost is described as a structure: what is usually charged for, and what usually costs more than what. Any actual figure depends on your pet's weight, your distance from the provider and what you choose, so it belongs on the cost pages where it is derived from real published pricing.
Limits
What this cannot tell you
- This tool does not advise on euthanasia and cannot tell you whether it is time. That is a conversation with your veterinarian.
- This tool does not give legal advice. Rules on burying a pet on your own land vary by area, so check with your local authority.
- It cannot tell you what a specific provider will do. Every option lists what to confirm with them directly.
- It does not quote prices. Cost is described as a structure, because a figure here would be invented.
- Availability counts describe what we have recorded, not everything that exists.

Common questions
Will this tell me what to do?
No, and it deliberately does not try. It shows which options are most likely to fit what you have said matters to you, framed as a best fit rather than a correct choice. Every option stays on the page, including the ones it thinks fit poorly.
Does it recommend euthanasia, or tell me when it is time?
This tool does not advise on euthanasia and cannot tell you whether it is time. That is a conversation with your veterinarian.
Can I bury my pet in my garden?
That depends on where you live and Final Tail does not give legal advice. Rules vary by local authority and, in some places, by whether the animal received certain veterinary medicines. Ask your vet and your local council before deciding.
Why does it ask my country?
Because availability genuinely differs. Aquamation is well established in some markets and barely present in others, and pet cemeteries are far more common in some countries than others. The counts you see are from the providers we list in the country you choose.
Are my answers saved?
No. The whole thing runs in your browser, nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account. If you copy a link to your result, your answers travel in that link and nowhere else.
