Prices by weight
What dog cremation costs by weight band
Almost every UK crematorium prices dog cremation in weight bands, so a giant breed can cost more than double a small one. The typical column is the middle of the published prices we found; the full range is the whole span across the providers we checked.
| Weight band | Typical published | Full range |
|---|---|---|
| Small dogsup to ~10kg · Terriers, dachshunds, pugs and similar toy and small breeds. | £165–£200 | £100–£240 |
| Medium dogs~10–25kg · Spaniels, border collies, bulldogs and mid-size crossbreeds. | £220–£270 | £180–£315 |
| Large & giant dogs25kg and over · Labradors, retrievers, and giant breeds such as great danes. | £275–£350 | £220–£395 |
The lowest small-dog figures we found (from around £100) are often “cremation only” packages without an urn or, in some cases, ashes return. Communal (shared) cremation costs less but does not return ashes. Always confirm what is included.
How the bands work
Why the same dog can fall in different bands
There is no national UK weight scale. Each crematorium sets its own band cut-offs, so where your dog sits — and what you pay — depends on the provider as much as the breed.
- A “small dog” cut-off might be 8kg at one crematorium and 10kg at another, so a borderline dog can land in either band.
- The bands can be narrow or wide: some providers publish two or three sizes, others step up every few kilograms all the way to giant breeds.
- The jump from smallest to largest is real — among the providers we checked the giant band is often roughly double the small-dog price at the same crematorium.

Individual vs communal cremation
After weight, whether the cremation is individual or communal is the biggest factor in both the price and whether you get ashes back.
Individual (private) cremation
Your dog is cremated on its own, so the ashes returned are your dog's alone. This is the higher-cost option and the one priced by weight — £165–£350 across the bands — and it is the choice to make if you want the ashes back.
Communal (shared) cremation
Several pets are cremated together and the ashes are generally not returned. It is the lower-cost option — some UK providers publish communal prices from around £30 for the smallest pets, rising with size. Choose it if a resting place elsewhere, rather than the ashes, is what matters to you.
Add-ons
Collection, urns and caskets
The weight-band price is usually the base. Collection from home or your vet, and anything beyond a basic scatter tube, are commonly charged on top — and vary widely between UK providers.
What's usually extra
- Collection. Some include a free local radius; many charge a flat fee or by the mile (around £1.25–£1.75/mile is common), more for out-of-hours pickups.
- Container. A basic scatter tube is usually included; a named urn or engraved casket is charged on top — some providers publish the dog price as “cremation only” and list packages separately.
- Keepsakes. Paw prints, fur clippings and jewellery are optional extras.
- Attendance. A few crematoria let you attend or witness the cremation for an added fee.
Collection fees published by UK providers
Collection free on weekdays within 10 miles (£25 at weekends); £2 per mile beyond 10 miles.
Collection of pet and return of ashes £1.25 per mile (inc VAT); out-of-hours or Sunday collection £2.50 per mile.
Home collection and return £35 plus £1.75 per mile (£60 with two drivers); courier return of ashes £30.
Questions
Dog cremation cost FAQ
Common questions about UK dog cremation pricing, weight bands, ashes and what is included.
How much does dog cremation cost in the UK?
Dog cremation is priced by weight. Among the UK crematoria we checked, individual (private) cremation typically runs about £165–£200 for a small dog (up to ~10kg), £220–£270 for a medium dog and £275–£350 for a large or giant breed, with the largest published up to about £395. These are published prices we found, not quotes — confirm your dog's weight band directly with the provider.
Why does my dog's weight change the cremation price?
Cremation uses time and energy, and a larger dog takes more of both, so almost every UK crematorium publishes weight-banded pricing. The band cut-offs are set by each provider — a "small dog" might mean up to 8kg at one crematorium and up to 10kg at another — so the same dog can fall into different bands depending on where you go. It is worth checking exactly which band your dog sits in.
How much does it cost to cremate a large or giant dog?
Large and giant dogs sit at the top of the weight bands. Across the UK providers we checked, the published individual price for the biggest dogs is typically £275–£350, rising to about £395 for the very heaviest breeds. Collection, an urn or an engraved casket are usually charged on top, so ask for the all-in figure for your dog's weight.
Is individual dog cremation more expensive than communal?
Yes. In an individual (private) cremation your dog is cremated on its own and the ashes are returned to you, which costs more. In a communal or shared cremation, several pets are cremated together and the ashes are generally not returned, so it is the lower-cost option — some UK providers publish communal prices from around £30 for the smallest pets, rising with size. If getting your dog's ashes back matters, choose individual cremation.
Does the price include collecting my dog from home or the vet?
Often not. Some UK providers include collection within a local radius, while others charge a home or vet collection fee — sometimes a flat amount, sometimes by the mile (around £1.25–£1.75 per mile is common), with more for out-of-hours pickups. Some published dog prices are also "cremation only", with a scatter tube or casket charged separately. Always confirm what collection and container are included before you book.
Will I get my dog's ashes back?
With individual (private) cremation, yes — the ashes returned are your dog's own, usually in an included scatter tube with a named urn or casket available as an upgrade. With communal (shared) cremation, ashes are generally not returned. If you would like the ashes back, confirm the service is individual and ask how and when they are returned.
