For providers
Provider guidelines
What we expect from a listed provider, and what we will edit or decline. Every line here maps to something in our actual data model rather than being a statement of values.
Expectations
What we ask of a listed provider
None of this is enforced by contract. It is what we would tell a family to look for, so it is what we ask of the businesses we list.
- Be reachable
- A working phone number, email or contact form, and someone who answers it. Families use this directory at the worst moment of their year, and an unanswered line is the single most common complaint we hear about the sector.
- Be clear about what you actually do
- If you take the booking and another crematorium does the cremation, say so. There is nothing wrong with that model, and there is a great deal wrong with a family finding out afterwards. We record intermediaries as intermediaries.
- Be clear about what private means in your process
- Providers use private, individual, solo and partitioned to mean genuinely different things. Whatever yours means, describe it plainly on your own site, and we will record what you say.
- Publish something about price
- A starting figure, a range, or even the drivers that move it. We record whatever you publish and link back to where we found it. Publishing nothing is allowed and is not held against you, but it is the thing families ask us about most.
- Keep your public information current
- We build listings from your own pages. If your site says something that stopped being true two years ago, that is what your listing will say too, until you or a family tells us.
- Treat families the same regardless of what they can spend
- A communal cremation is not a lesser service and the person choosing it is not a lesser customer.
- Do not use pressure at the point of grief
- No upselling at the door, no artificial urgency, no implying that a cheaper option is disrespectful. If we see it in your own published material, we will not list it.
What we will edit or decline
- Service claims your own public information does not support
- Credentials or accreditations we cannot find any record of
- Marketing language presented as though it were a verified fact
- Wording that implies Final Tail endorses, rates or recommends you
- Comparative claims about other providers
- Anything that reads as pressure aimed at a grieving family
What we will never do
- Rank you above or below anyone else, for any reason or any amount
- Publish a rating, a review score or a badge, because we have none
- Change a recorded fact without something we can point at
- Remove a competitor from a page because you asked
- Sell your details, or pass an enquiry to anyone else
In practice
How to get a change made quickly
- 1
Send the correction with a link to the page on your own site that supports it.
- 2
Say which field is wrong rather than describing the whole listing, so we can act on it directly.
- 3
If it is a closure, say so plainly. We treat closures as the highest priority correction we receive.
- 4
If you are the business, claim the listing as well, so future corrections from you carry weight.
Questions
Common questions
What evidence do you need for a service claim?
Something public we can point at, usually a page on your own site. That is the same standard we apply to every provider, and it is why a claim sent with a link is usually live within a few days while one sent without stays in the queue.
My listing says "Not confirmed" for a service I definitely offer.
That is a gap in our research, not a judgement about you, and it is the fastest thing in the world to fix. Send us the page on your site that says you offer it and we will update the record and re-date the listing.
Can I ask you to remove a competitor?
No. If you believe a listing contains something factually wrong, tell us with a source and we will check it like any other correction. That applies whether the listing is yours or someone else's.
What happens if we go out of business?
Tell us and we will remove the listing. Families ringing a disconnected number is the worst outcome this directory can produce, so a closure report is the single most useful thing you can send us.
Do these guidelines change if I pay?
No. Nothing on Final Tail is paid placement today, and when tiers do open, paying will change presentation and nothing else. These guidelines apply identically to every listing.
Before you get in touch
Our research methodology explains what we check, what we do not, how we treat pricing and service areas, and why we do not publish ratings. It is the fastest way to understand how your listing works and what we can and cannot change.
How we research providersFinal Tail is an independent directory of pet cremation and aftercare providers across Australia. We collect provider details from public listings, provider websites and information shared with us. Services, availability and pricing may change, so please confirm directly with the provider before making arrangements.
